Post-festivity detoxification essential guide: 8 beneficial ways to cleanse the mind and body

detoxification

The festivities are over, but let that not tone down your inner glow. Let your inner light shine even brighter with the much-needed detoxification.

With the festivities slowly wrapping up, it is essential to focus on cleansing and giving your body, mind, and soul the rejuvenation it deserves after all the strain and stress of being the best version of yourself.

During celebrations, we overlook the essentials of being “healthy” and focus on enjoying and binging. And that is something you deserve after working day and night towards your goals and ambitions. After all, it is necessary to be happy, and what better than glamming up and gorging on favourites while enjoying our traditions, rituals, and celebrations?

Durga Puja, Diwali, Navratri, Chhath Puja. There are many reasons to enjoy yourself, get together with your friends and family, and let go of your otherwise strict diet, routines, and exercises. But it is also important to remember that your body and mind must return to form. The sooner you detoxify, the better you will prepare for the upcoming festivities.

Why is detoxification essential?

We love celebrations, and we love to celebrate without inhibitions. Be it any festival or any reason; we love it grand. In fact, we are known for our “dil kholke” attitude towards celebrating every occasion. So, inevitably, we end up consuming high-calorie, oily, and sugar-loaded foods (Duh! we cannot imagine celebrations without these!). There is also the added pressure of looking good, because of which we wear heavy make-up, loads of accessories, and dresses that do not let our skin breathe freely. We also end up sleeping less, adding strain to our minds and body. Post-festivity lethargy and fatigue are for real, and all that slows us down physically and mentally.

Detoxification of the mind and body becomes necessary. It brings back the health, glow, and activeness of the mind and body. It rids all toxins dumped in abundance throughout the festivities and allows the mind and body to heal and relax. As much as enjoyment is necessary, so is the need to enable your body to replenish itself and prepare for the winter, before which we need to boost our immunity, health, and inner peace.

It is time to focus on well-being.

The goal is to return to a routine and rejuvenate our mind and body health.

Remember that detoxification may or may not involve losing weight. In this blog, I shall primarily focus on the detoxication of mind and body.

This is not a guide to post-festivity weight loss.

Detoxification is cleansing! The plan is to naturally get rid of toxins, regain energy and set a routine for ourselves.

Detoxication of the body

Here is a list of ways through which you can detoxify your body.

Remember, the goal is to cleanse and not lose weight.

Detox diet

One of the simplest and most natural ways to rid your body of the calories and sugar dump is following a healthy diet. This will detoxify you, boost immunity, and help you get fit. You can include the following food items in your diet

Food rich in antioxidants

Antioxidants help the body eliminate toxins and boost brain health. It helps fight against aging, works against anxiety and depression, reduces oxidative stress, and fights against premature cell damage.

Include vegetables like broccoli, spinach, carrot, and onion. You can also have fruits like apples, berries (cranberry, blueberry, raspberry), guava, papaya, and avocados. Must include spices are turmeric, garlic, cinnamon, and ginger.

Fermented food:

Fermented food helps detoxify the body and, along with that, also improves gut health. It will help you get rid of toxins and also boost your immunity.

To be included are curd, yogurt, buttermilk, and sourdough bread (made from the fermented dough).

Detox drinks

Just like including loads of fruits and vegetables can help you detoxify, having fluids, too, can benefit you in numerous ways. Not only will these drinks remove toxins, but they also boost metabolism and improve your overall health. Here is a list of drinks you must focus on:

Water:

There is nothing better than drinking plenty of water to flush out all the toxins. It keeps you hydrated and remain active, energetic, and healthy. Keeping yourself hydrated will also ensure that your skin recovers its health and glow after all the torture the festive make-up and dressing do. Make a habit of drinking at least 2-4 litres of water daily.

Drinking water regularly is the least you can do to your body to keep it fit and glowing.

Green tea:

One of the most trending and healthy drinks to include in your diet is green tea. It is rich in antioxidants, boosts metabolism, and cleanses your body. Along with that, it has numerous other health benefits that reduce risks of heart disease, cancer, and diabetes, along with improving brain function and weight loss.

Lemon and honey in lukewarm water:

If you drink this miracle drink every morning on an empty stomach, then this will help you detoxify and get that glowing skin. It also helps reduce bloating and constipation.

Detoxication of the mind

We often focus on diet and eating right but overlook the well-being of our mental health. Our mind is constantly battling all the negativities and mental toxins, requiring the necessary amount of repair. Just like our body, our mind needs to replenish itself too.

During the festivities, as much as we run the risk of eating unhealthily, we also end up getting stressed. Stress is not good; therefore, it is essential to detoxify our minds. Here are some simple steps to relax your mind and initiate detoxification:

Meditate:

The pressure of looking the best, traveling around, late-night eating, and lack of sleep have all taken a toll on our minds. It needs to relax now and stop the hundreds of thoughts that crowded it.

With meditation, you can stop the numerous distractions and bring yourself to peace. It helps you detoxify the unnecessary chaos and focus on only what is essential. When you focus on one particular thought, you channel your inner peace and calm down.

Exercising:

We all already know the benefits of exercising regularly, and there are endless ways in which it helps us live better. Regularly exercising reduces stress and makes one feel fresh and energetic. It also boosts endorphin production, which acts as a mood elevator. It is also one of the ways by which you can detoxify your mind.

Sleeping:

Your mind needs rest after all the high-decibel fun you had during the festivals. All those late nights have taken a toll on your body and mind. So, give yourself that much deserving rest, and make sure to sleep for at least 6-7 hours (Yes, you can do it if you want). Having a good night’s sleep will detoxify your mind, rejuvenate it, and help you feel more energetic and productive.

You could also unwind and watch some fantastic shows. Check these excellent suggestions on Netflix to binge-watch.

Detoxification is a straightforward process if your intentions are right. So, if you are determined to detoxify your mind and body, then there is nothing that can stop you.

I hope you all have a meaningful cleansing of the mind, body, and soul. Cheers to more festivities.
